Steam Launch Nautilus

Das ist mein erster Beitrag in diesem hervorragenden Forum.

This is indeed a graceful video of a vintage boat......just imagine sailing on a Sunday afternoon to have Dinner & a glass of wine

25kg and a D10 is no baby, do you have the luxury of sailing on clean water?, if so I suppose gas is the only limiting element, and calling by for a gas top up is not a big issue

Has anyone mentioned, the two links in the earlier postings are ERROR

yes derek Such ideas are also my motivation for building such a boat. I'm a romantic...hopeless.

Well..It's not really good yet. Probably never stops.
My son helps me put it in the water.

I don't really know the water yet. That's why I currently have a 1 liter water tank. Good enough for 30 mins.
However, direct feeding from the pond is planned.
From the gas we have already sailed for over 1 hour.
I don't use any gas flow control, just the main control.
Next year the Stuart launch compound is supposed to be in the boat, then I would also like to compare the consumption of water and gas with the D10.

Well Jurg...sometimes we are all Desk Mechanics & Wood Butchers, however you appear to have quite a complicated assembly of valving between the D10 & the boiler

Hello Derek
2 photos of the main steam line.
The line runs under the removable machine plate.
Boiler/angle valve 5mm pipe/tee to steam water pump and D10/RC valve/angle valve 4mm pipe at inlet of D10.
Yes there would be more direct connections but I don't like too many pipes visible.

Is that a Holzapfel steam engine?

Yes. Bought from Holzapfel in Switzerland about 30 years ago. As a kit. Another question: I read your post in another forum. In it you ask for a simplification valve for a Stuart compound. Did you get any further? I know it's been 10 years since the post... But that's exactly what I'm building at the moment. A 3mm pipe from the high pressure valve body to the low pressure valve body with an RC valve in between. Has anyone ever built this?

Hello, yes I have built a simpling valve for a very small JMC compound engine about a year ago and it seems to work well. If you send me your email in a private message, I will send you some pictures.

By the way, I have a Holzapfel engine like yours too and am very happy with it. Better than a Stuart D10 because it doesn't rust.
